Kigali Convention Centre

The dome above the city, lit in the flag's colours after dark.

The dome that stands over Kigali is the shape of a traditional Rwandan king's palace, drawn in steel and glass. It opened in 2016, and it has become the picture the city uses of itself.

After dark the lattice is lit, cycling through the blue, yellow and green of the national flag; on days of remembrance it is a single colour. It is worth timing a drive back through the city for the hour after sunset.

The centre sits in the Kimihurura district alongside a hotel, an IT park and an office campus, and it is Rwanda's home for the summits and conferences the country now hosts regularly. There is nothing to tour by day, but the plaza and the terraces around it are open, and the view back across the valley to the CBD is the best in Kigali.
